The Top 10 Social Networks for Generation-Y

With thousands of social networks globally, only a handful of them cater specifically to a special group of individuals, known as Generation-Y. Also known as Gen-Y or millennials, Generation-Y are individuals born between 1980 and 1995, at a volume of 80 million strong.
Gen-Y was raised on technology, so much so that our cell phones are extensions of our hands and text messaging, instant messaging and Facebooking are how we interact with others, even different generations. While Facebook is our home sweet home, there are various other social networks out there that cater to this demographic and are worth looking at.
If you’re in Gen-Y, then the following social networks will help you connect with other Gen-Y’ers in new and exciting ways. You may be familiar with some and others may be brand new to you. Older generations can learn a lot from these communities, to better understand who we are and what we’re about. One of the major concerns corporations are facing these days is how to cope with Gen-Y, yet many of them don’t take the time to get to know us better. These networks are great places for you to start if you’re in any generation, but are “must-joins” for Gen-Y.

Ghajini Rs 200 Cr Breaks Box Office Records Collection

Bollywood has shot to a new high, thanks to 'Ghajini'. When booking for the movie opened at a theatre in the UK on Wednesday, the film became the first to gross Rs 200 crore at the worldwide box office. What's more, the mark has been achieved in little less than two weeks. It has grossed Rs 162 crore in the domestic market and Rs 39 crore has come from overseas till Thursday.

An ecstatic Madhu Mantena, the Ghajini producer, admits to being "overawed'' by the record but trade consultant Amod Mehra is apparently not surprised. "The film was very strong from Day 1. It has been galloping like a onehorse race and, in my estimate, it will cross the Rs-250-crore (gross) mark very easily,'' Mehra said.

Bollywood producer Punkej Kharbanda is also not surprised that a Hindi film has broken all previous box-office records. "In the last year alone, there has been a 40% increase in cinema screens and also a rise in the cinema-going population, especially in the age group of 18-35. With most of the theatres recording good numbers on Ghajini, the Rs-200-crore mark is hardly a surprise,'' Kharbanda said.

Ghajini released with the maximum number of prints in India (1,200 digital and analog versions) and it made inroads into even provincial towns where films never get released on the same day as the rest of the world. A trade source said, "The film is set to take over the mantle of the highest domestic Bollywood earner from Anil Sharma's Gadar-Ek Prem Katha.'' In the overseas market, the film is, till now, second only to Karan Johar's Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna.

Ghajini has also reportedly earned Rs 4 crore from gaming rights (a first for a Bollywood film), Rs 21 crore for satellite rights for India and overseas and something to the tune of Rs 10 crore for home video and music.

Best Lyricist

The year 1953 witnessed the birth of Filmfare Awards, with the motive of acknowledging the efforts of the talented people of Bollywood. The award ceremony instituted the Best Lyricist Award in 1958. Although the particular category was included a little later, it is one of the most important categories of award in Filmfare ceremony. There have been many times when a movie has reigned the minds and hearts of the people just because of its songs. It is really a difficult task to have the perfect blend of words and emotions for a song. In Hindi movies, lyricists have done justice to this combination, with their skill of writing. Such an aptitude deserves to be honored and Filmfare Awards serve as the perfect platform for acknowledging this genre of artists. Filmfare Awards History

Filmfare Award is the most prestigious award ceremony for the artists connected with the glamorous world of Bollywood and Indian film industry. This mega event is held in Mumbai every year and makes up the most awaited juncture of time for the Hindi Film industry. With time, Filmfare Awards have earned the reputation of being the best and the most respected award ceremony in Hindi Cinema. As we look back into the history of the awards, we get to know that it was the brainchild of Filmfare Magazine. The award ceremony was started in the year 1953 and initially, it was known as 'The Clares', after a renowned Filmfare critic - Clare Mendonca.
The first Filmfare Awards function, held on 21 March 1954, comprised of only five awards. These five categories included Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Music Director. For these awards, over 20,000 votes were received by people from all over the country. Held amidst much anticipation, the first Filmfare Awards ceremony saw 'Do Bigha Zameen' receiving the award for the 'Best Film'. Bimal Roy carried off the statuette for 'Best Director', for the same film. The 'Best Music Director Award' went to Naushad, for 'Baiju Bawra'.
Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari were the first ones to receive the 'Filmfare Best Actor Award' and 'Filmfare Best Actress Award', respectively. While Dilip was awarded for his performance in 'Daag', Meena Kumari received the award for her performance in 'Baiju Bawra'. From then on, Filmfare Awards continued to be organized every year and today, they have gone past their golden anniversary as well. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black, released in the year 2006, created a record in Filmfare Award, when it bagged 11 awards - the most won by a movie till date.
